Monroe County Busted Mugshots, Defined
A booking record tracks a person's entry into custody. It may include a name, a facility, an admission date, and any charge wording the custodian releases. The photo from that process is an identification image. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department handles local duties that include inmate custody and transportation. Its public law page offers no county-only roster, no photo archive, and no booking feed. For live custody questions, the state system is the official place to start.
The division of work matters. An arrest leaves a record with the agency that made it. The jail holds the current-custody entry. A court may later show a filing or outcome. Keep those labels straight, because each office answers a different question about the same event.
Why Monroe uses a regional custody route
Southern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is the WVDCR lockup serving Monroe County and six others. The address is 1200 Airport Road, Beaver, WV 25813. The listed phone is 304-256-6726. A result here gives regional-facility context. It does not tell you the county where an arrest happened. Transfers, holds from another jurisdiction, releases, and federal detention arrangements all shape who appears in the system.
A dated prison statistic is not a booking count
The WVDCR FY2025 annual report counted 33 Monroe County sentenced prison offenders around June 30, 2025. That figure is a corrections statistic fixed to one date. It is not a roster total, a recent-arrest count, or a tally of people booked in the county.
The two record routes can disagree without either being wrong. Someone booked by a Monroe agency may be released before a WVDCR query ever runs. Another person may sit at the regional facility on a matter from a neighboring county. So preserve the facility, date, and agency labels an official result actually provides. Those details beat a broad county-name tag attached to an image.
Monroe County Booking Record Fields
Official displays don’t always show every field. A WVDCR public jail result may list a name, the jail location, and a photograph when one exists. The additional-information view can expose more details. Copy the source wording and date as given rather than filling a blank with a guess.
| Field | What it can show |
|---|---|
| Name | The name displayed by the official custody source. |
| Jail or institution | The listed location, subject to rapid status changes. |
| County context | The county selected or associated with an admission search. |
| Booking or admission date | A visible intake date, when the live result exposes one. |
| Custody status | A location or status indicator, not a final case outcome. |
| Photograph | An official image only when the public search makes one available. |
| Charge text | The source charge wording, not a conviction statement. |
| Bond or court order | Information shown by the official result, if any. |
| Identifier | An OID, booking number, or case number if displayed. |
Intake photos and public display differ
WVDCR Policy 400.01 covers admissions and LiveScan work. Policy 151.00 calls for front, left, and right adult images, with the front view used in the OIS record. Those rules explain how a record gets made. They don’t promise that every image is public, current, or kept online. The honest description of a public search is “a photograph when available.”
Note: A missing image or empty result doesn’t mean no photo was taken or no custody event occurred.
Request Monroe Busted Booking Records
Sometimes a live result is missing, thin, or too old. Then send a focused public-record request to the office that actually holds the item. West Virginia Code §29B-1-3 sets out that framework. No Monroe-specific booking-photo form, confirmed fee, or guaranteed production date exists. So keep the ask narrow. Request only publicly releasable material, and let the custodian explain any lawful redaction.
- Call the sheriff’s non-emergency line, 304-772-3018, and ask which office is the custodian for the locally created record, the booking image, or both.
- Give the full name, approximate processing date, likely facility, and a case, OID, or booking number if one is known.
- Request the publicly releasable booking record and photograph under §29B-1-3, and ask for electronic delivery if available.
- Ask for a fee estimate before chargeable work and for the legal basis of any withheld or redacted material.
- Keep the response with its source date, then use the court record to verify any charge or outcome rather than treating a booking entry as final.
Correct custodian, no assumed fee
The statewide sheriff contact list puts the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department at 350 Main Street, Union, WV 24983. Directory and staff entries vary for Sheriff Michael J. Heller. Confirm the right records contact before mailing anything time-sensitive. The sheriff may hold a local agency record, while WVDCR or Southern Regional Jail may be the proper custodian for a regional-custody item. And don’t substitute an authorized criminal-history request for a public-record request unless that stricter process is truly needed.
A strong request asks whether the office holds a responsive record, whether a referral is needed, and which exemption supports any withheld portion. Ask for electronic delivery and a fee estimate. No Monroe fee schedule or turnaround promise covers booking photographs. The public-record law also stops short of making every image releasable.
Monroe County Mugshot Law and Corrections
West Virginia’s public-record access has limits. Section 29B-1-4 lists exemptions that can block release, including privacy and law-enforcement materials. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, protected, medical, and unnecessary personal details should never be copied into a public summary. A photo’s presence in intake files doesn’t make it an unrestricted publication item.
Social-media removal is narrow
West Virginia Code §62-1-6A governs booking-photo postings. It applies to certain minor-offense cases, when agencies post photographs on social media. If its conditions are met, a 14-day removal process kicks in. Qualifying outcomes include dismissal, nonindictment, acquittal, or a reversed, vacated, or nullified conviction. Note the exceptions, though. The statute sets no general privacy rule, no universal photo ban, and no automatic duty for private publishers. Start with the official case outcome and the agency responsible.
Sealed, expunged, and juvenile omissions
West Virginia law allows courts to seal or erase certain records through expungement. Two statutes do most of the work here. Section 61-11-25 covers acquittals, dismissals, and similar outcomes. Section 61-11-26 handles qualifying misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies, though it sets eligibility rules and waiting periods that vary by situation. Anyone considering this path should start with the official Judiciary forms page, then talk to the circuit clerk or a lawyer about the specifics of the case.
House Bill 4621 was not enacted
One caution on mugshot legislation. House Bill 4621 was proposed in 2024 and never became the general rule. It was not a statewide mugshot ban, and it did not create a universal removal right for publishers. Calling it current law would simply be wrong.
Older records need a different path
No official WVDCR retention period for Monroe booking photos is published. Nothing settles that question anywhere. If a historical record seems missing, ask the custodian about the retention schedule and disposition authority. Reporting can help with old events where a booking image cannot. The West Virginia State Archives Monroe newspaper holdings list microfilm from the Monroe Watchman and Alderson papers. A newspaper account can document a hearing, an arrest, or an outcome. It is still not the booking system itself. It also cannot confirm a photograph still exists.
- Booking
- Processing a person into custody and creating the related intake record.
- Arraignment
- A court appearance where the case proceeds under the court’s rules.
- Bond
- A court-set release condition, when one is ordered and displayed.
- Disposition
- The court’s recorded outcome, which may differ from the original booking charge.
- Expungement
- A court-authorized record process available only when statutory requirements are met.
Important: Verify dispositions, dismissals, acquittals, sealing orders, and expungement orders with the official court or record custodian.
Find Monroe County Busted Mugshots
For a current-custody question, go straight to the WVDCR Regional Jail Offender Search. Skip county-name results from other states. Skip third-party image sites too. The live form asks for a name plus county or institution context, and it uses a captcha. Write down the search date, the county you picked, the facility shown, the status listed, and whether an image appeared. Match the name carefully. A face alone is not a reliable match.
- Search the WVDCR regional-jail application by last name, adding the first name when available.
- Use Monroe County and facility context where the live form offers it, then read the result’s own location field.
- For a recent-admission question, check Daily Incarcerations separately instead of assuming the live roster is a same-day feed.
- For a charge or case event, compare the exact record with the magistrate portal and, when appropriate, circuit-court access.
- If the public result cannot answer the question, use the custodian request route rather than relying on a reposted listing.
VINE tracks status, not photographs
WVDCR VINE serves a different need. It sends custody-status and release notifications, either by phone at 1-866-WV4-VINE or through Vinelink registration. That makes it a notification tool, not a photo search. It has no public mugshot function at all.
Each system answers one question. Current custody, daily admissions, victim notifications, case lookups, and records requests are separate tools with separate purposes. Merging their outputs without source dates invites errors, since a release, transfer, or court event can look like something it is not. When results conflict, leave the match open and ask the court clerk or custodian which record comes next.
Monroe County Roster Search and Photos
The WVDCR jail application comes closest to an official Monroe County jail roster. It is really a regional system, though. Information there updates often and can shift within hours. Someone can drop off the list because of a release or a transfer. The source itself warns that status and location change without notice, so treat any listing as a snapshot rather than a settled fact.
| Official search item | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Last name | Primary name-search field. | Common names can return more than one person. |
| First name | Helps narrow a name search. | Use only if known, and do not guess aliases. |
| County or institution | Focuses a regional-jail query on Monroe or a facility. | A facility result does not prove county of arrest. |
| Jail location | Shows the location supplied by the live result. | Location can change after transfer or release. |
| More Info fields | May provide date of birth, booking date, or court order data. | Visible fields can change with the application. |
| Photograph | May appear when the official search makes it available. | No image is not proof that no intake image exists. |
Always confirm location and date before tying a record to Monroe County. Southern Regional Jail holds people from several counties. So the county selection and source fields are part of the verification. A separate WVDCR prison search covers state-prison custody only. It is not a current Monroe booking roster. Turn to it only after custody has moved past the regional jail system.
Note: Record the query date and follow up with the court or custodian whenever a roster status stays unresolved.
Recent Monroe Busted Bookings: Daily or Current
For recent regional-jail admissions, use the official Daily Incarcerations application. It works differently from the current-custody search. Before calling a result same-day or multi-day, check the live interface. Look at the date, county selection, institution, and any date-range control. There is no confirmed permanent archive, fixed publication schedule, or guaranteed historical date range behind it.
Daily admissions are not the same as custody
An admission result reflects a recent intake event. The standard jail search shows current or recent custody. Keep the two straight. A blank daily result does not mean no arrest happened, since query conditions, timing, transfers, releases, or application limits can all hide an event. The reverse happens too. A person can still appear in the jail search well after the admission date has passed.
No official Monroe "booked today" list exists. There is no weekend roundup or rolling mugshot feed either. Treat each visible admission as a time-stamped result from one source. If the question involves a charge or a disposition, the court record is the place to look. A daily lookup simply cannot stretch into a historical arrest log for Monroe County.
Monroe County Custody and Court Records
Custody records and court records answer different questions. Confusing them leads people astray. The Magistrate Record Search offers free case information behind a captcha, with limits on what it shows. WV PASS is a separate circuit-court portal requiring registration, and it restricts some documents. Neither one tells you where a person is right now. When an online entry looks incomplete, a clerk can supply the right document or copy route.
| Record state | Best official route | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Recent admission | WVDCR Daily Incarcerations. | A final case outcome or permanent archive entry. |
| Current regional-jail custody | WVDCR Regional Jail Offender Search. | That the arrest occurred in Monroe County. |
| Released or not located | Custodian request and court follow-up. | That no arrest, case, or prior booking existed. |
| Sentenced state-prison custody | WVDCR prison search. | A recent county booking or current jail hold. |
| Federal or immigration custody | Separate BOP locator or ICE locator. | A Monroe County booking or public booking photograph. |
The regional facility also holds federal detainees under a United States Marshals Service arrangement. So read the source label before drawing conclusions. A federal result and a Monroe booking record are two different things and should never be merged. For follow-up, court clerks and status portals are the right stops, since neither can confirm on its own exactly where a person sits today.
Monroe Busted Mugshots by City
No city in Monroe County keeps its own booking database. The starting point stays the same everywhere: the regional WVDCR system or the agency that made the arrest. Each town page here simply notes the local facts that shape a records search in that community.
Alderson Busted Mugshots covers the town's unusual spot on the Monroe and Greenbrier County line. It lists the police-department contact. It also explains why any facility label needs checking against both the agency and the county.
Peterstown Busted Mugshots explains that the town has no local police department of its own. Records questions go to the sheriff, State Police, WVDCR, or the courts, depending on what you need.
Union Busted Mugshots takes the county-seat route through the courthouse. Union also lacks a town police force. There is no municipal mugshot roster to pull from.
Monroe County Records, Alerts, and Sources
Start any Monroe County lookup with official channels. They tell you which system holds the file. They let you check a source date, custody status, facility, and where a case sits in court. Nothing copied from these channels belongs in a local photo gallery. The table below sorts what each official route answers from what it leaves open.
| Official channel | Photo? | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| WVDCR Regional Jail Offender Search | When available | Current regional-jail custody and visible live-result fields. |
| WVDCR Daily Incarcerations | Not verified as a photo route | Recent-admission checks, separate from the current roster. |
| Southern Regional Jail or WVDCR custodian | Only if releasable | A focused request for a record absent from the public application. |
| Magistrate Search and WV PASS | No booking-photo function | Case, filing, charge, and disposition follow-up. |
| WVDCR VINE | No | Custody-status and release notifications. |
| WVDCR prison search | Separate system | State-prison custody, not a Monroe booking feed. |
The Monroe app and sheriff social account are not feeds
Two county-run tools are worth knowing. The Monroe County App carries county news, events, alerts, and directory features. The county's official follow page links out to the sheriff's Facebook account. Neither one offers inmate lookup, booking data, or any mugshot feed. Treat both as sources for announcements and policy updates, not for confirming whether someone is in custody.
Unofficial publishers sit further down the list, after the official checks. These include Busted Newspaper, RecentlyBooked, Arrests.org, Mugshots.com, and Arre.st. Their listings can be stale or repeat an older booking. They can linger after a release, or name the wrong county in a regional-jail setting. None of them confirms current custody, identity, or how a charge resolved.
A few other tools fill narrower roles. MCJ Search bills itself as independent and says it refreshes every six hours, though that timing is its own claim rather than anything WVDCR states. The Monroe Watchman and West Virginia Daily News offer news context, not a standing roster or photo archive. Fixing an inaccurate listing? Start with an official order or disposition. Then use RecentlyBooked's contact route, which handles claims about wrong details, outdated listings, and sealed or expunged matters. Getting a correction request started costs nothing.
